A doggy-bag of late Michael Vick takes

Thanks to Tucker Carlson’s moronic comments, Michael Vick is in the news for about the 34th straight week in a row.

However, I haven’t been blogging for about 33 of those weeks, so here’s some doggy treats in the form of Vick-related takes.

1. Can we please stop comparing the execution of dogs to the execution of humans? Carlson called for the execution of Vick for his involvement with the dogs. While I’m sure this will piss off dog owners and PETA, dogs are not human beings. I love dogs – but they are not humans.

2. Vick spent two years in prison and went bankrupt. That’s paying a debt to society.

3. This sort of ducktails point number one, but to me the mainstream sports press focused way too much on the dead dogs and did not focus on the real story – the gambling element of the Vick saga. Again, not to overlook what he did to those poor dogs, but outside of saluting fans after a critical touchdown in a bowl game, gambling is the biggest sin in sports. It banned eight members of the Chicago White Sox, Pete Rose and rumors about Michael Jordan’s gambling led to numerous conspiracy theories on the “real reason” he retired the first go around. “Retirement was a lie, Jordan threw di,” is what I guess the conspiracy-theory related bumper sticker would read. However, this angle very rarely made ESPN, Fox Sports, CNNSI or HBO’s various stories on it.

4. Vick didn’t revolutionize the quarterback position in terms of scrambling and being a mobile quarterback. This guy did:

I think Dexter Manley had an easier time reading “A Tale of Two Cities” than tackling John Elway that day.
